Registered agent requirements in Washington
Washington consolidated its registered agent law for all entity types into the Uniform Business Organizations Code, so whether you run an LLC, a corporation, or a limited partnership, the same rules apply. RCW 23.95.405 requires every domestic and registered foreign entity to designate and continuously maintain a registered agent in the state, and RCW 23.95.415 governs how the designation is made - including the requirement that the agent actually consent to the appointment. The agent may be an individual residing in Washington or an entity with a Washington office, and commercial registered agents can register a master listing under RCW 23.95.420. In every case the agent needs a physical street address in the state; the agent’s duties to forward process and keep its information current appear at RCW 23.95.455.
Filings go through the Secretary of State’s Corporations and Charities Filing System (CCFS), the online portal that assigns each business its Unified Business Identifier. A Certificate of Formation for an LLC or Articles of Incorporation for a profit corporation costs $180 on paper or $200 online including the processing fee, with $100 expedited service available for roughly three-working-day handling of paper submissions.

Every new entity must file one within 120 days of formation - free if submitted with the formation documents, $10 plus processing if filed afterward - putting the company’s governors and business description on record early.
